Black leather journal with painted Illuminated miniature and gold tooled decoration - Elephant and castle
This journal is hand bound in black leather and decorated with a detailed hand painted illuminated miniature on the front cover. The image is a modified copy of the illumination Elephant and Castle from the Westminster Abbey bestiary (dating to c. 1275-1290). The rest of the decoration of this notebook is blind tooled to form a frame around the borders and gold tooled lines around the edges. The painting was executed over imitation gold leaf, sealed with varnish and it is also protected by being on a slightly recessed surface than the cover.
The notebook measures 5.1 x 7 inches (13 x 18 cm) and is filled with Favini Laguna paper with traditional parchment finish, 90 gsm thick. It has 240 pages (480 sides). This paper is acid free and will hold well ink and dry media.
The headbands are made of black leather with gold tooling. The endpages are made of Lokta Paper with gold on green floral pattern.
I hope it makes a great addition to your collection!
